Today we recognize one of America’s finest citizens, Martin Luther King Jr., and reflect on the values this great man promoted. He declared that all men and women were created equal, a fact that we all know to be true today but a fact that was not accepted by many in his time.
Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister, a civil rights activist, and a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Congressional Gold Medal. He was an educated man with a doctorate degree, and a strong leader.
Mr. King used nonviolence and civil disobedience to achieve change, rather than riots and criminal activity.
He was a key figure in the civil rights movement in the 1950’s and 1960’s and was instrumental in bringing about desegregation, labor rights, and the right to vote.
The examples set by Martin Luther King Jr. have changed the world for the better and should never be forgotten. We salute you, Mr. King! Thank you for your enormous contribution to common decency and U. S. History.
